Nikki Jane Tattoo

Aftercare Instructions

1.
Remove the cling-wrap within the hour of being tattooed.

DO NOT leave your tattoo covered for longer than an hour. For tattoos to heal properly, they need to be able to breathe. DO NOT re-cover your tattoo in the healing process.

2.
Wash your tattoo with antibacterial soap and warm water.

With clean hands, gently wash your tattoo to remove any blood or plasma. This will prevent scabbing. Do not scrub your tattoo while it's healing in the two week period. Rinse your tattoo with cold water.

3.
Pat dry your tattoo with a paper towel or a clean cloth.

Once you have washed your tattoo, pat it dry with a paper towel or a clean, soft cloth. Be gentle when drying your tattoo.

4.
Let your tattoo dry 5-10 minutes.

Let your tattoo breathe while it dries. The skin should feel a little tight and dry. It is extremely important to let your tattoo “breathe” this way any time you get it wet during the healing period.

5.
Once dry, apply a TINY amount of aftercare cream.

With clean hands, apply a tiny amount of aftercare to your tattoo. Only use enough to make it shine. A little goes a long way. Spread the cream so it evenly covers your tattoo and work it in well (make sure you do this gently). You can dab off excess aftercare with a clean paper towel. Do not re-bandage the tattoo. If you have any further questions regarding aftercare, please message me.

6.
Repeat the process of washing, drying and applying aftercare cream 3-5 times a day for 2 weeks.

Tattoos take around 2 weeks to heal, sometimes longer for slower healers. Smaller tattoos generally take less time to heal whereas larger tattoos will take longer.

Aftercare cream can be applied whenever the tattoo is feeling dry or stiff but be careful not to over-moisturise. Do not use anything on your tattoo that contains fragrances or colour while it is healing.

THE DO NOT'S WHILE YOUR TATTOO HEALS

Do not submerge your tattoo for a prolonged period of time while it heals.

This means no baths, saunas, hot tubs or swimming while it heals. Showers are fine, just make sure you are using warm water and you are not having a prolonged shower. 10 minute showers are best.

Do not expose your tattoo to direct sunlight while it heals.

This means no baths, saunas, hot tubs or swimming while it heals. Showers are fine, just make sure you are using warm water and you are not having a prolonged shower. 10 minute showers are best.

Do not pick or scratch at your tattoo.

While your tattoo heals, it is likely to become very itchy. Refrain from scratching your tattoo or picking at scabs/peeling skin as this can cause scar tissue. Do not scrub at your tattoo while it is healing as this can cause it to fade.

Keep your tattoo clean while it heals!

It is extremely important to keep your tattoo clean while it heals to avoid any infection. Always use clean hands and clean paper towel or cloths. Make sure you use clean bed sheets after being tattooed.

Following the above steps will ensure your tattoo has the best results with minimal complications and your tattoo will stay bright and beautiful over the years to come. If you have any questions or issues regarding aftercare, please message me.
